Amidst attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, hotel owners in Assam's Barak Valley have declared that they will not accommodate any Bangladeshi nationals until the assaults on Hindus and other minorities cease. Barak Valley encompasses the three districts of Cachar, Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj), and Hailakandi. Assam shares a 129-kilometer-long border with the Sylhet region of Bangladesh.
Babul Roy, President of the Barak Valley Hotel and Restaurant Association, expressed concern over the situation of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh, deeming it unacceptable. Consequently, we have decided not to accommodate any citizen from that country in the three districts of the Barak Valley until the situation improves and the persecution of Hindus stops. This is our form of protest. He further stated that the people of Bangladesh should ensure that stability returns to their nation. Only upon improvement will we reassess our decision.
Recently, Bajrang Dal asked organizers of an ongoing global expo in Silchar to close two stalls selling Bangladeshi products as a protest against the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. Their demand was met. Bajrang Dal protesters also visited the Bangladesh Visa Center in Silchar, demanding the removal of the signboard’s 'Bangladesh' name.Previously, two hospitals in Agartala and Kolkata decided to suspend treatment for Bangladeshi nationals. Agartala's ILS Hospital, popular for its convenience and affordability to Bangladeshi patients, recently declared it would no longer serve Bangladeshi patients. Similarly, Kolkata’s JN Ray Hospital made a similar decision, citing the rising atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.
