Early Saturday, 18 Bangladeshi citizens residing in Assam without valid documents were 'pushed back' from the India-Bangladesh border. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally provided information on this action.
Sharing on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Sarma remarked, 'Look who's heading back home! In Assam, we warmly welcome guests, but for those attempting to extend their stay illegally, we have special 'pushback' arrangements.'
On Saturday morning, a total of 18 illegitimate Bangladeshi citizens were 'pushed back' from the districts of Cachar and Sribhoomi. The Chief Minister also clarified that Assam Police is conducting a statewide campaign against illegal immigrants, particularly focusing on Bangladeshi nationals who have been residing in the state for years without proper documentation.
Sarma had previously announced that nearly 330 illegal immigrants have been sent back from Assam in the past month, and that further actions in this line will continue. The government asserts that this campaign is vital to maintaining the state’s safety and demographic balance.
Although efforts to manage immigration are pertinent, Assam remains a haven where we embrace guests who contribute positively to the society, ensuring harmony and growth.
