Tensions are running high among players about the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup. Former wicketkeeper Srivats Goswami has publicly urged for India to boycott their September 14 encounter against Pakistan. The former Royal Challengers Bangalore player warned that the match could spark national outrage across India if it were to proceed.

Ever since the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released the schedule, resistance to the India-Pakistan clash has grown stronger. The Asia Cup is slated to unfold from September 9 to 28 in the UAE, with India and Pakistan propelling this fervor as they are set to face off on September 14.

According to the schedule, India and Pakistan are slated for up to three potential showdowns:

* September 14 (Group Stage) * September 22 (if both teams reach Super Four) * September 28 (Final — if both teams reach it; marking a historical first in Asia Cup history)

In a bold statement on X, Srivats Goswami expressed, “In my opinion, India should forfeit the match against Pakistan, letting them qualify. We don't need to win the Asia Cup. India is participating to support other ACC member countries financially, otherwise, there’s no valid reason. Playing against Pakistan will enrage the entire nation. It shouldn't happen!”

Concerns over security issues and bilateral tensions arise

Sources disclosed in June via India Today that India wouldn't host nor play in Pakistan for the Asia Cup, citing a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on April 22 that tragically took 26 tourists' lives.

Questions on playing against Pakistan emerge

Senior Indian players recently refused participation against Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends. Consequently, former Pakistani spinner Danish Kaneria pondered why India is now willing to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup when they chose not to in the Legends tournament.
