A five-member medical board formed by a Delhi court advised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, detained in Tihar Jail, to continue his two-unit insulin regimen. A Tihar source informed Aaj Tak that Kejriwal is completely healthy, with no changes to his prescribed medications. Last Saturday, a team of five doctors from AIIMS Delhi reviewed his health via video conference.
The medical board, including two Tihar jail doctors, took part in the half-hour video conference. Kejriwal's health will be re-evaluated in a week. The board has asked him to persist with his ongoing medication. Earlier this week, his sugar levels hit 320, leading to his first insulin dose in Tihar Jail.
Arvind Kejriwal Suffers from Type 2 Diabetes
Last week, a Delhi court dismissed Kejriwal's plea for daily consultations with his doctor via video conferencing. However, the court ordered the jail authorities to establish a medical board with AIIMS doctors to determine Kejriwal's insulin needs for his Type 2 diabetes.
The court permitted the Chief Minister of Delhi to consume home-cooked food but stressed adherence to the diet chart prescribed by his doctor. It was suggested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Kejriwal was intentionally increasing his sugar levels by consuming foods high in cholesterol such as mangoes, puri, and sweets to seek medical bail. The AAP accused them of plotting to kill the Delhi CM in jail by withholding insulin and other diabetes medication.
ED Arrested Kejriwal on 21 March
On March 21, Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy. Since April 1, he has been in judicial custody at Tihar Jail No. 2. His judicial custody was recently extended to May 7 by the court. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, also accused in the Delhi liquor scam case, has been detained in Tihar Jail for about one and a half years under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). K. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana's former CM KCR, is also detained in Tihar in the same case, with her judicial custody extended to May 7.
