The BJP candidate from the Meerut constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Arun Govil, has also spoken about making changes to the constitution. In a discussion with journalists, Arun Govil stated that change is a hallmark of progress. The remarks of the BJP candidate have prompted questions from Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

In an interview, the actor known for playing Lord Ram in the Ramayan series said, "The constitution of our country has evolved gradually with time to meet changing circumstances. To initiate change is to signify progress; there is nothing wrong with that. Conditions were different then; today's scenario is varied. The constitution doesn't change at the behest of one individual. It changes with consensus, and if such environment arises, action will be taken."

Govil says Modi does not speak without significance

When asked whether the slogan 'over 400' was coined because the government intends to make a significant move, Govil replied, "I feel that when Modi speaks, there is always a meaningful reason behind it."

Akhilesh Yadav raises concerns

Conversely, Akhilesh Yadav criticized Arun Govil's statement, stating that by giving tickets to individuals who do not understand the difference between progressive amendments and fundamental changes to the constitution, BJP has made a significant mistake. Despite this, he believes that it won't make much difference because the people have already decided to defeat every BJP candidate.

The SP leader further stated, "BJP aims to flip the constitution to suppress the rights and reservations of the poor, the deprived, the oppressed, farmers, youth, and women, and to formulate policies for the benefit of capitalists—who, in the guise of electoral donations, share their immense profits with the party. In truth, this is a method of extortion from the public because no capitalist contributes from their pocket; they extract it from the public and fill the party's and their personal coffers."

The former Chief Minister added that to protect their present and future, the people of Uttar Pradesh and the country will not be swayed this time, and will decisively defeat the BJP.
