When Bullets Reverberated in AMU's Canteen

In September last year, another shooting incident emerged at Aligarh Muslim University's Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Medical College's canteen. According to information, the assailants were demanding a weekly fee from the canteen operator. When the operator refused to pay, the attackers resorted to firing.

The incident happened outside the special ward canteen at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, causing chaos with more than half a dozen rounds fired. A woman was injured in the crossfire. It was reported that conflicts over the canteen have previously led to fights and shootings here.

Shootings in AMU: A Recurring Issue

AMU has witnessed shooting incidents before, notably in 2018 when a shooting occurred in the RM Hall of the campus. In this unfortunate event, two students, who were brothers, were injured. On the complaint of the victims, a case was filed by the police. It was reported that some rowdy students were trying to extort three hundred thousand rupees from others. When refused, the rowdies attacked the victims with knives and the butts of firearms. Allegedly, some bully students were also attempting to force others to join a protest over the Jinnah issue and resorted to violence when faced with refusal.
