It is believed his actions were driven by drug-induced delirium.

The family told police that Amritpal's wife had also abandoned him. DSP Tajinder Pal stated that after committing the murders, the accused surrendered to the police of his own volition. Subsequently, on Friday, accused Amritpal Singh was presented in the Ajnala court and then sent to judicial custody.
