Police teams are vigorously investigating the gruesome murder case in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. Initial reports reveal a chilling tale where teacher Sunil Kumar and his entire family were brutally murdered in a calm, calculated move that suggests the killer was intimately familiar with the area. The timing was impeccable—the loud festivities at the nearby Durga Pandal muffled the sounds of gunfire.
The Durga Pandal, located just 50 meters from the crime scene, was bustling with evening prayers and music, masking the gunshots. In the chaos, the murderer slipped away unnoticed, vanishing into the night like a phantom.
On the evening of September 3rd, the murderer struck in a rented house in the bustling market of the Shivratanganj area. Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam Bharti, and their two young daughters were gunned down mercilessly. A local shopkeeper shared that the gunshots were the first sign of the horror, prompting them to alert the police stationed at the Durga Pandal, causing immediate commotion and a swift gathering of a formidable police force.
From the crime scene: 9 bullet casings, one live round, and an empty magazine
The police retrieved 9 spent bullet casings, a live round, and an empty pistol magazine near the scene, now sent for forensic analysis. Preliminary investigations unveiled crucial clues—entry into the property was via a narrow alleyway in a bustling market without signs of forced entry; the killer seemed well-acquainted with the deceased's home layout.
It's suspected that Sunil Kumar and his family might also have known the perpetrators, which perhaps explains their lack of resistance or alarm. Meanwhile, reports from neighboring residents mention hearing the shots, yet none could spot anyone fleeing the site.
The police indicate that around 7 PM, the criminals executed their plan and made their escape across the rooftops from the rear of the house. When they arrived, they found Sunil Kumar lifeless near the garden's handpump, his wife Poonam on the courtyard's dusty ground, and their daughters laying nearby—a scene of utter devastation surrounded by discarded ammunition and a live round.
Six police teams deployed for revelation
According to police sources, more than two weapons were used in this massacre, and the culprits approached the house on foot. Currently, six teams from the Amethi and Raebareli police forces are doggedly pursuing leads to crack this case. The investigation is under the stringent scrutiny of the SP, IG, and ADG, with Chief Minister Yogi also actively involved.
To shed light on the tragic incident, it's essential to note that the family of teacher Sunil Kumar, victimized in Amethi's Shivratanganj region, hailed from Sadamapur Village at the Gadaraj Thana in Raebareli district. The father of the deceased Sunil Kumar, Ramgopal, stated, “We have no idea why this happened.” Recently, his daughter-in-law had lodged a complaint against a man named Chandan Verma for harassment, and he is currently being sought by the police.
