Following the suspension of SP MLA Abu Azmi from the Maharashtra Assembly, party chief Akhilesh Yadav has voiced his support. Speaking in favor of Azmi, Yadav criticized the suspension, claiming it is misguided to believe that silencing truth is possible through such actions.
According to SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, 'If ideological influence becomes the basis for suspension, what remains of freedom of expression? Our legislators and MPs are known for their fearless wisdom. It is naive to think that suspension can silence the voice of truth... Today, free-thinking says no to BJP.'

It is pertinent to mention that after making a controversial statement about Aurangzeb, SP leader Abu Azmi was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly for the current session. With political heat rising over his statement, Azmi clarified, stating he never intended to speak against Shivaji Maharaj or Sambhaji Maharaj.
According to Azmi, his words were distorted. He reiterated he only echoed the sentiments of historians and writers regarding Aurangzeb. Azmi emphasized he never made derogatory remarks towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sambhaji Maharaj, or other revered figures.
It is noteworthy that a case has been filed against Abu Azmi in Thane, Maharashtra, for his comments on Aurangzeb. Defending Aurangzeb, Azmi stated he does not consider the 17th-century Mughal emperor to be cruel, tyrannical, or intolerant. Recently, films tend to distort the image of the Mughal emperors.
