Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani's DNA Matched; Cremation in Rajkot Tomorrow

On June 12, a tragic incident occurred when an Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Among those on board was former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who sadly lost his life in the accident. Early on Sunday morning, at approximately 11:20 AM, a DNA match confirmed his identity. His remains will soon be handed over to his family. On Monday, June 16, with full state protocol, his body will be taken to Rajkot, where a cremation ceremony with government honors will take place.

Upon the completion of the DNA match, Gujarat's Health Minister Rishikesh Patel and Cabinet Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma visited the post-mortem room at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to deliver this confirmation.

Vijay Rupani was aboard Air India's Boeing 787, destined for London to visit his daughter. Unfortunately, he became a victim of the disaster. His seat on the aircraft was 2D.

Since the accident, the DNA of a total of 32 individuals aboard has been matched, and 14 bodies have been returned to their families, according to reports from news agency PTI.

The identified victims hail from various cities across Gujarat and Rajasthan, Civil Superintendent Dr. Rajnish Patel informed the reporters.

Health Minister Meets with Family Members; Vijay Rupani's Cremation Set for Rajkot

Health Minister Rishikesh Patel announced that Vijay Rupani's funeral will occur in Rajkot. He also met with the grieving families of other victims of the crash.

In this tragic incident in Ahmedabad, the death toll has reached 270. The plane carried a total of 242 individuals: 230 passengers, 10 crew members, and two pilots. Tragically, apart from one passenger, all lost their lives.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the Air India aircraft collided with the BJ Medical College building near the airport, leading to fatalities not only on the plane but also among those in the building, with several injured.
