Afghanistan's Taliban government Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, is currently on a visit to India. During this seven-day trip, he met with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday to discuss several key issues. However, the press conference, more than the visit itself, has drawn attention and criticism on social media.

In reality, women journalists were not allowed to participate in Muttaqi’s press conference. As soon as this news broke, social media erupted with anger. Many users deemed this decision 'unacceptable' and contrary to the core spirit of journalism.

Chidambaram Raises Concerns

Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram expressed his dissatisfaction over the situation. He wrote on X, 'I was shocked to learn that women journalists were excluded from Amir Khan Muttaqi's press conference. In my view, male journalists should have walked out.'

Social Media Outrage

Several people on social media supported Chidambaram’s statement, asserting that if women journalists were excluded from the press conference, male journalists should have protested against it. This press conference became more about the exclusion of women journalists than India-Afghanistan relations.
