The battle for the Delhi Assembly elections is intensifying. With the polls in February, the Aam Aadmi Party has encountered a significant disruption. On Monday, two of its former leaders joined the Congress party.

Former AAP legislators Asim Ahmed Khan and Colonel Devender Sehrawat departed from Kejriwal's party to align with Congress, sparking fresh discussions and speculations.

Asim Khan represents Matia Mahal seat

Asim Ahmed Khan, who served as a minister in the 2015 Kejriwal government, was removed after a controversial audio clip allegedly requesting money went viral. Asim served as the AAP legislator from Matia Mahal from 2015 to 2020.

Similarly, Colonel Sehrawat represented the Bijwasan constituency as an MLA in 2015 and was a Lok Sabha candidate from South Delhi in 2014, where he finished in second place.

Other leaders who have left AAP

Previously, sitting MLAs like Rajendra Pal Gautam from Seemapuri and Abdul Rehman from Seelampur left AAP to join Congress. Abdul Rehman, after leaving AAP, received a Congress ticket from Seelampur while Gautam is still awaiting one.

Additionally, former AAP MLA Adarsh Shastri, who is also the great-grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, is contesting from the Dwarka Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket.

Political reshuffling changes the landscape

The political shuffle before the assembly elections has altered the political landscape in Delhi. Amid this, Congress is striving to reclaim its lost ground, looking to capitalize on the internal discord within AAP.
