On Tuesday, the Prayagraj Magh Mela Authority issued a notice to Swami Avimukteshwaranand, questioning his presentation as the Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, a matter currently sub judice in the Supreme Court. In response, Swami Avimukteshwaranand has provided a detailed eight-page reply to the authority.
The response from Avimukteshwaranand was electronically sent from the mela authority's email ID and to their office in Sector-4. When Avimukteshwaranand's team visited to deliver the notice, no responsible officer was available to receive it, prompting followers to affix copies at the gate.

Earlier, legal representation from Supreme Court advocate P.N. Mishra emphasized that key dates from civil appeals, where Swami Avimukteshwaranand was acknowledged, invalidate the claims of the authority.

Swami Avimukteshwaranand’s investiture ceremony had already occurred on October 12, 2022. The Supreme Court's referenced order, dated October 17, was subsequent to this ceremony, reinforcing the legitimacy of the title. Hence, the notice issued could be seen as contempt of court, given there was no restriction on investitures prior to October 17.
Vasudevananda's Misrepresentation in Affidavits
P.N. Mishra highlights that Vasudevananda allegedly submitted false affidavits. A petition has been lodged addressing this issue, aiming for accountability from officials spreading misconceptions.
