Amid the Lok Sabha elections, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra candidly discusses the current electoral issues and allegations against the Congress in an interview with Aaj Tak. Speaking to India Today Group's Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Priyanka targets BJP, stating, 'They want us to stay silent on the abuses hurled at our family. You wish to call our martyred father and grandmother traitors and expect us to remain quiet. This only benefits you.'
Priyanka questions, 'Should we be ashamed of the sacrifices our family made for the country? Why should we stay quiet? I am proud that my grandmother took 33 bullets for the nation, that my father became a martyr for this country. I will speak out.'
'At 19, I carried home my father's remains'
Priyanka further contended, 'Modi ji can weep for votes in any interview; isn't that an emotional plea? Yet when we speak, it's termed emotional. We are speaking the truth. I was just 19 when I had to bring back the remains of my father. Why should I not speak up?'
Referring to BJP's claims, she added, 'You claim that my father altered laws for inheriting Indira ji's legacy tax-free...what nonsense. You spread lies, and we stay silent? I take immense pride in my family, and no one can make me feel ashamed.'
