India Block's vice-presidential candidate, B Sudarshan Reddy, echoed the renowned socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia's saying, 'When the street falls silent, Parliament goes astray...' Praising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he remarked how Rahul ensures the streets are never silent, compelling governments to take action.

On Wednesday, former Supreme Court Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy engaged in discussions with members of the INDIA coalition in the Central Hall of the Parliament. During the meeting, he shared, "Lohia's words echo in my mind—when the street is silent, the House becomes wayward. Rahul Gandhi never lets the streets fall silent, making it part of his nature and routine to confront challenge after challenge. His efforts have successfully persuaded the Telangana government to conduct a caste census systematically.

B Sudarshan Reddy stated, "I'm feeling a bit nervous, perhaps slightly excited, and definitely thrilled, and my joy knows no bounds. As you address the nation on various issues, I'll be listening attentively from my seat. I follow most of you, perhaps each one of you, to stay informed on national affairs. Rooted in Lohia's ideology, one line rings true: 'When the street is silent, Parliament goes astray.'

During this gathering, B Sudarshan Reddy held open discussions with INDIA coalition members on several topics.

Regarding the caste census in Telangana, the vice-presidential candidate and former Supreme Court Justice B Sudarshan Reddy commented, "When the task was completed, as I presented the report, I remarked that a significant challenge loomed for the current ruling party, and I was proven right. We await to see the time it will take and whether it will be a comprehensive study or merely superficial. If their intentions are genuine, I would not be guiding them...

Justice B Sudarshan Reddy also highlighted the SIR issue in Bihar, emphasizing that the right to vote is the only democratic weapon in the hands of the people. He expressed his concerns over the challenges faced by universal suffrage, stating, "Universal adult suffrage is confronted with grave challenges. Bihar’s crisis poses a severe threat, with no greater danger to the constitution. If the right to vote, the lone weapon of the common man, is threatened, what will remain of democracy?

Supreme Court Justice asks—why entangle in political complications?

Sudarshan Reddy shared that a fellow Supreme Court justice queried why he delved into the 'political quagmire’. He replied that his journey commenced in 1971 as a lawyer and that the present challenge is part of this ongoing journey. Reddy emphasized that the office of India's Vice President is not a political institution.

Today (August 21), India Block's candidate B Sudarshan Reddy will file his nomination for the vice-presidential candidacy. Reddy, contesting against the ruling NDA's nominee CP Radhakrishnan, anticipates a thrilling political contest in the election slated for September 9, as both camps rally for support ahead of the voting.
