Every day, we receive numerous calls from unfamiliar numbers on our smartphones. To identify these, many rely on third-party apps. However, a novel service named Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) has been initiated following the Indian Telecom Regulatory Authority's (TRAI) directive.
This CNAP service provides smartphone users with a default feature that reveals the identity of callers from unknown numbers. This identification reflects the name under which the SIM card was issued.
What is CNAP?
When someone calls from an unknown number, the mobile screen will showcase the registered name alongside the number. This name is sourced directly from the telecom network database, ensuring accuracy beyond user-based databases.

Unmasking Fake Numbers
Spam calls often stem from unfamiliar or fake numbers. If the caller's name isn't visible or the number seems dubious, exercise caution. All smartphone users will benefit from the caller name presentation service.
Identifying Fake Banker Numbers
Official names will appear for calls from banks, telecom, delivery services, or government entities. Recognize scammers impersonating bank support easily with this service.

Advantage from SIM-Binding
The upcoming SIM-Binding regulation will soon be implemented, impacting apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat. If a mobile user removes the SIM card, messaging apps will shut down too. TRAI aims to curb cyber fraud, spam calls, and messages with these changes.
