The legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has highlighted the longstanding inequality in sports and cultural relations between India and Pakistan. He believes that Pakistan always expects India to make the first move, but does not reciprocate the gesture. In a special interview with Aaj Tak, Gavaskar mentioned that India has always kept its doors open for Pakistan, whether it be in the IPL or commentary panels. However, such reciprocal actions from Pakistan have been rare.

Gavaskar Criticizes Pakistan's Attitude

Gavaskar stated, 'We were the first to initiate this. When IPL began in 2008, nearly every franchise included Pakistani players. We also had Pakistani commentators in our midst. Pakistan always wants India to extend the invitation, but we've rarely seen the same action in return. This was even before the current tense situations arose. Hardly ever has Pakistan done something similar.'

He further added, 'How many of our singers, film stars get a chance to work in Pakistani films? The first step is always taken by India. When people talk about bullying, we aren't suppressing anyone. We're simply doing our part and minding our business.'

IND vs PAK Match Boycott: A Political Play?

Gavaskar's comments come at a time when Pakistan has announced its decision to boycott the crucial group match against India in the T20 World Cup 2026. This game is scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. Gavaskar has previously criticized this decision, suggesting that it has more to do with politics than sports.

Just days before the tournament, Pakistan declared that while it will participate in the World Cup, it will not compete against India. This was cited as a show of solidarity with Bangladesh, which was replaced by Scotland due to security concerns by the ICC.

The India-Pakistan match is considered the pinnacle of cricket clashes, and its absence could result in significant financial losses for broadcasters and sponsors.
