The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to introduce NCERT books in the third grade. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to enhance its efficacy, the UP Basic Education Department will start implementing NCERT books for grade three in the academic session 2025-26. Additionally, regional languages and dialects will be included in the curriculum.

Preparing for a 10-15% Change in Books

Currently, NCERT books are taught in first and second grades at UP schools, and they will now also be applied to third grade. Nonetheless, a preparation is in place for a 10 to 15 percent change in the content. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has commenced this process.

Plan to Incorporate Regional Languages

Officials suggest that significant changes in Mathematics and Sanskrit/Urdu are unlikely, yet some state-level additions may occur in Hindi, English, and social science. Within this framework, regional languages and dialects like Bhojpuri, Bundeli, Awadhi, and others are being integrated. Their vocabulary is also being incorporated in the Hindi books to enable children to learn about their local context.

Departmental officials stated that information relevant to UP is being added to both English and Hindi. This process will be completed soon. It is worth noting that the Basic Education Department provides books free of charge to all students in council schools. Moreover, funds are deposited into students' bank accounts to cover uniforms, shoes, stockings, and stationery as a scholarship.
