On Saturday, the usual life in Imphal Valley came to a complete standstill as various organizations called for 'Sintha Leppa' on May 3, 2023, marking two years since the outbreak of ethnic violence, urging a complete halt to daily activities.

Schools and Shops Remain Closed

Educational and commercial establishments stayed closed throughout the day. Public transport services were shut, and only a few private vehicles were seen on the roads. Security forces were deployed at key locations in the capital to prevent any potential unrest.

The Manipur Unity Coordination Committee (COCOMI) organizing the 'Manipur People's Convention' at Khuman Lampak Stadium requested the public to cease their routine activities and attend the event in large numbers.

Public Boycotts Routine Work

The event aims to reflect on the ongoing crisis in the state and pay tribute to those affected by the violence. Scheduled activities for the day include a candlelight tribute in the evening at Kangla Nongpok Thong for those who lost their lives during the violence.

Similar disruptions were observed in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, where all educational and commercial centers were shut down. The public's widespread support for 'Sintha Leppa' signifies that the wounds from the violence two years ago remain fresh in people's hearts.
