A catastrophic incident claimed the lives of two children when a wall fell in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, on Thursday. This misfortune occurred near Hanuman Temple in Basant Nagar. The Delhi Police reported receiving a call about the event at 4:44 PM. Upon arrival, police first responders found the wall had already collapsed. Two young children were trapped beneath the rubble; one aged 10, the other 9. They were promptly taken to AIIMS Trauma Center via PCR Van, where they were tragically pronounced dead.
Initial probe indicates that the children were seated on the stairs adjacent to the wall, which is owned by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and it gave way due to the relentless rains and resulting waterlogging. Both the Disaster Management Authority and the DDA were quickly informed about the tragedy. Efforts are underway to clear the debris to ensure no one else remains trapped. The young victims hailed from Bihar.
In another unfortunate incident earlier, a massive tree collapsed amid heavy rainfall in the Kalkaji area of South Delhi. Sadly, a motorcyclist passing by was struck, resulting in an immediate fatality, while another individual suffered severe injuries. A nearby car also sustained damage as a result of the falling tree.
City Submerged Due to Heavy Rains
Major roads including Dhaula Kuan to Gurugram Road, Lajpat Nagar, Rohtak Road, Anand Parbat, Azad Nagar, and Old GT Road were left inundated in Delhi. Motorcyclists and scooter riders found themselves having to push their vehicles through the standing water. The PWD flood control room received over 50 reports of waterlogging across the city, alongside tree fall incidents at locations such as Saket Court, Ghitorni Metro Station, Satyaniketan, Okhla Mandi, and South Extension-2.
Weather Department Issues Alert
