Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States continues to be highlighted in the media. The American media praised PM Modi's style of engaging with President Donald Trump, hailing it as a 'masterclass for other global leaders.'

After Trump's inauguration, PM Modi became one of the select global leaders to visit the USA. Prior to their meeting, President Trump referred to India as the 'Tariff King' and a major 'tariff offender.' Subsequently, he expressed excitement about meeting Prime Minister Modi, describing him as a 'great leader.' He stated, 'We are set to enter into remarkable trade agreements between India and the USA.'

Prior to their meeting, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs. However, during the bilateral discussion, Modi transformed this into an opportunity. According to a joint statement issued by both countries, the USA and India entered agreements across various crucial sectors including trade, energy, defense, security, construction, and technology.

What the American Media Says

Senior CNN journalist Will Ripley highlighted PM Modi's approach with Trump, saying, 'It's now clear – first the positive meeting with Japan's PM Ishiba and now with PM Narendra Modi and Trump – this is a masterclass for other leaders on how to approach discussions with Trump.'

He further commented, 'PM Modi was in Washington the same day Trump announced reciprocal tariffs. Despite trade tensions, both sides agreed on potential trade deals, energy cooperation, military collaboration, and more.' This is credited to Modi's visionary approach.

He also remarked, 'At the meeting's conclusion, several significant agreements were negotiated. Modi's slogan "MIGA + MAGA = MEGA – a large partnership for prosperity" was praised, highlighting the smart branding Trump appreciates.'

Trump's Acknowledgment of Modi

President Trump also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's negotiation skills. In a press briefing, when asked who was the tougher negotiator, Trump remarked, "He (Prime Minister Modi) is a much tougher negotiator than me. There's no competition."

The joint statement released by both countries vowed to double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, and announced a plan for a bilateral trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and enhancing market accessibility.
