The CBI has been actively investigating the rape and murder of a lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. On Sunday, they conducted polygraph tests on main suspect Sanjay Roy and six others, while also probing former principal Sandeep Ghosh's corruption case. Despite these efforts, the ruling party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), doubts its credibility and efficiency. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that the CBI hasn't made a single new arrest yet. The primary suspect was arrested by Kolkata police. This case needs to be solved quickly. What exactly is the investigation agency doing?

TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh also criticized the CBI for delaying the investigation. She said, “Kolkata police were given barely three days for their investigation, whereas the CBI took 12 days but failed to reveal anything new. I have doubts about CBI's credibility and ability. It's not just my opinion, data shows their conviction rate is less than one percent. As the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has always stressed that justice should be delivered promptly and without unnecessary delay. We hope justice will be served soon.”

Saayoni Ghosh added, “There’s no strong opposition in West Bengal; those who are here are just trying to tarnish Mamata Banerjee's image. People need to understand that no leader would want such an incident to occur during their tenure, especially not Mamata Banerjee, who leads a government committed to empowering women. This is not just our claim. The central government’s NCRB data itself shows that Kolkata ranks first in women's safety. Women are safest here.”

The TMC MP further stated, “Yes, a tragic incident has occurred. We are all in shock and pain. We have been demanding justice from day one. I stand with all doctors. Their demands are justified. But we urge doctors to resume treating patients as soon as possible, as it is their duty. Justice is a process that will surely be delivered, but until then doctors should fulfill their duty.” Several ministers and leaders from the Mamata government have previously questioned the CBI investigation as well. Mamata herself had given the investigation agency a week's time.

Amidst all these allegations, the CBI is still hard at work investigating. Today, main accused Sanjay Roy underwent a polygraph test. The CBI team and experts conducted the lie detection process at Presidency Jail. After about four hours of testing, the CBI team exited the jail. Meanwhile, rapid raids are being conducted at the hospital implicated in corruption. The CBI team also searched the house of former principal Sandeep Ghosh. After about a six-hour raid, one team has left. Another team is still present at the house. Sandeep has been interrogated for the past 10 hours.

Raids were also carried out at the homes of Debashish Som and Sanjay Vashishth, who were on Sandeep Ghosh's team at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The CBI searched 15 locations. The CBI knocked on Sandeep Ghosh's house at six in the morning. The door was opened after waiting for an hour and a half. Sandeep faces several serious charges of corruption. Despite two transfers, he stayed at RG Kar Hospital due to his influence. The SIT had already done much of the work on the corruption investigation before the court ordered all evidence and documents be handed over to the CBI.
