When asked in the Lok Sabha whether the commission has declared these 21 universities fake and what actions have been taken, the minister replied that maintaining law and order is the responsibility of state governments.

The central government has requested all the chief secretaries of states and union territories to take legal action against these 21 fake institutions. Additionally, they should take appropriate steps against those misleading students by posing as universities, distributing degrees, and using the word 'university' in their names. Following this directive, 12 fake universities have been closed since 2014.

Ongoing Identification of Fake Universities
The government has also asked all states and union territories to report any other fake universities operating in their regions that are not listed by the UGC. Fake universities include Christ New Testament Deemed University in Andhra Pradesh, Bible Open University of India, All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Science University in Delhi, Commercial University Ltd., United Nations University, Vocational University, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment, and others.
Government's Warning
Additionally, the government has issued public notices via social media, the UGC’s website, and other channels to warn students, parents, and the general public to be cautious of these fake universities.
The government has lodged FIRs against several self-proclaimed institutions and fake universities. They have also issued show cause notices or warnings to cease illegal degree distribution.
