Shoaib Bashir Replacement Liam Dawson:
The fourth Test between India and England is set to take place at Old Trafford, Manchester, starting from July 23. In this thrilling installment of the Anderson-Tendulkar series, spinner Liam Dawson will step in as a replacement for Shoaib Bashir, who sustained an injury during the Lord's Test while trying to block a shot from Ravindra Jadeja.
England's selection committee announced this decision on Tuesday. Although there were multiple contenders to fill Shoaib Bashir's shoes at Old Trafford, the final choice favored Liam Dawson.
Shoaib Bashir suffered a finger fracture during the Lord's Test. The 35-year-old Dawson last played a Test match for England in July 2017. Returning to the Test scene with this opportunity, Liam Dawson has been consistent in his performance for Hampshire, garnering the PCA Player of the Year award in both 2023 and 2024.
Luke Wright, England's chief selector, commented, "Liam Dawson deserves this opportunity. His form in the County Championship has been exceptional, and his performance for Hampshire has been consistently impressive. Meanwhile, fast bowlers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton have returned to their respective domestic teams for the County Championship."
