Delhi-NCR Rains Update:
Heavy rains have been continuous in Delhi-NCR since late night. In places like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Greater Noida, and most parts of NCR, streets are waterlogged. Images from various locations in Delhi-NCR show significant flooding, leading to a sluggish pace of vehicles and traffic jams.
Warning of Heavy Rain Until August 31
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area is forming over the Bay of Bengal. Due to this, regions including Delhi, Bihar, UP, Gujarat, Himachal, and Uttarakhand are expected to experience significant rainfall today on August 29. The IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain until August 31.
Traffic Jams Due to Waterlogging
Early-morning commuters are facing difficulties due to waterlogging. Roads like Mehrauli to Badarpur, and Safdarjung Enclave are heavily flooded. Delhi recorded 7 cm of rain in Safdarjung and 5 cm in Palam by 5:30 AM.
Heavy traffic jams were also reported on NH-48 and India Gate. Traffic is slow on routes from Gurgaon and the airport to Dhaula Kuan. Roads between Kalkaji Temple, Nehru Place, Chirag Delhi, and IIT Delhi are also flooded.
Due to the flooding, traffic across Delhi has been severely impacted. Even the posh localities and common roads alike have been submerged, posing significant challenges to morning commuters.
The IMD forecasts light to moderate showers for the next two days in Delhi. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for Friday and Saturday. Clouds are expected to hover over Delhi skies for the weekend.
