The Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi mentioned the landslide that occurred in Wayanad, appealing to the central government for all possible assistance. Rahul Gandhi said, 'Early this morning, several devastating landslides struck Wayanad, resulting in the death of 70 people. Mudakkai village has lost contact, and the full assessment of lives and damages is yet to be completed. I have spoken with the Defence Minister and Kerala's Chief Minister. I urge the central government to provide all necessary assistance for rescue operations and medical care, and to immediately compensate the deceased.'
Rahul further emphasized the need to restore critical transport and communication lines, swiftly arrange relief efforts, and prepare a roadmap for the rehabilitation of affected families. Even as I speak, many areas in Wayanad and the Western Ghats are still under the threat of landslides.'
Additionally, he stated that there has been a dangerous surge in landslides in the country in recent years. There is an urgent need to map landslide-prone areas and create mitigation measures and action plans to address the increasing frequency of natural disasters in ecologically fragile regions.'
Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Might Visit Wayanad
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has announced preparations to visit Wayanad, along with Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
According to information, Rahul, Priyanka, and KC Venugopal will visit Wayanad tomorrow, i.e., July 31.

How Did the Incident Happen in Wayanad?
Amid heavy rainfall, a severe landslide occurred in Wayanad, Kerala. Over 100 people are trapped, and comprehensive rescue operations are underway. According to Health Minister Veena George, 54 people, including some children, have died so far. Both the army and the navy have been deployed on the ground for the rescue mission.
The landslide struck around 2 AM on Tuesday, followed by another around 4:10 AM. Over 100 people were trapped under the debris, and rescue operations are ongoing. The death toll is expected to rise as the rescue effort proceeds.

Army Deployed for Rescue Operations
Given the severity of the incident, the army was requested for rescue operations. As a result, four units have been mobilized, including two units from the 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and two from the DSC Center in Kannur. About 225 army personnel, including medical staff, are now involved in the rescue mission.
