As the vibrant festival of Holi approaches, the police in Sambhal have initiated a measure to cover the city's prominent mosques in tarpaulin. The process kicked off at the disputed Jama Masjid, where previously posters of those accused of violence were displayed. This decisive action was taken by police officials to prevent colors from painting the mosque walls during the Holi procession, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in the town. Firstly, the western walls of Jama Masjid were layered with tarpaulin and sheets.
The initiative extended to the walls of Ladaniya Mosque in the Khaggu Sarai area, where the tradition of covering mosques began three years ago after color incidents. Under the vigilant supervision of ASP Shreeshchandra and CO Annu Choudhary, the operation was completed amidst a substantial police presence. According to officials, plans are in place to cover ten mosques in Sambhal, with this process continuing over the next few days.
Meanwhile, the mosque's trustee endorsed this step, emphasizing its importance in ensuring a smooth and peaceful procession, rooted in historical context. ASP Shreeshchandra expressed the precautionary nature of this measure in view of the Holi festivities. With the Jama and Ladaniya mosques now safeguarded, further protections are planned for other mosques.
In memory, it's worth noting the uproar during the royal Jama Masjid survey in Sambhal on November 24, 2023, which tragically resulted in four deaths and injured 29 police officers. In light of this, stringent security arrangements have been implemented in Sambhal ahead of the forthcoming Ramzan and Holi festivals. Community meetings aim to calmly celebrate these events, promoting unity and peace.
