Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has described the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night as a 'very tragic event'. Upon his arrival in Delhi on Sunday, he addressed the media, stating that his government would extend every possible help to the families of victims from Bihar.

According to news agency reports, the Chief Minister remarked, 'I have been informed about this incident, which is deeply saddening. Bihar residents are also among the affected—we have decided to assist their families.'

The Bihar government has announced an ex-gratia of 200,000 Rupees for the families of state residents who lost their lives in the tragedy, and 50,000 Rupees for the injured. Late Saturday night saw the chaos erupt at platform numbers 14 and 15 of New Delhi Railway Station as passengers rushed to board trains heading to Prayagraj.

According to a senior railway official, the mishap occurred when some passengers slipped while descending the foot overbridge, causing the crowd behind them to fall over them, leading to the stampede.

This heartbreaking event resulted in at least 18 fatalities and injured over a dozen passengers. The station was heavily crowded with travelers heading to the 'Mahakumbh'. Meanwhile, the railway administration has decided to deploy additional security forces and enhance CCTV surveillance to manage the crowd more effectively.
