A major news has surfaced from Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh. Sukhdev Yadav, also known as Pehlwan, convicted in the high-profile 2002 Nitish Katara honor killing case, has died in a road accident. According to police, this incident occurred around 10 PM on Tuesday night when a speeding car violently collided with a motorcycle.
Death of 55-Year-Old Sukhdev Yadav
Three people were on the bike, including 55-year-old Sukhdev Yadav, who died instantly at the scene, while his two companions, Vijay Gupta and Bhagwat Singh, were critically injured. The police stated the accident happened in the Tamkuhi Road area of Kushinagar district.
After the incident, the car driver fled the site. With the help of locals, the injured were rushed to the hospital, while the police took custody of Sukhdev's body and sent it for postmortem. Sukhdev Yadav was the one convicted in Delhi’s high-profile Nitish Katara murder case.
In this case, former MP D.P. Yadav's son Vikas Yadav and nephew Vishal Yadav were also sentenced. The case dates back to the night of February 16, 2002, when Nitish Katara was abducted from a wedding in Ghaziabad and murdered.
Nitish Katara's Murder Driven by Romantic Ties
The reason behind the murder was said to be Nitish's romantic relationship with Bharti Yadav, Vikas Yadav’s sister, which the Yadav family deemed a matter of social honor, leading to the 'honor killing'. The court sentenced all three to 20 years in prison.
Having served his full sentence, Sukhdev Yadav was released from jail in June 2024. The government objected to his release, but the Supreme Court stated that there is no need for remission when the sentence is fixed. Four months after his release, Sukhdev met his death on the road. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and have initiated an investigation. The body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem.
