The tension between India and the United States over tariffs continues unabated. In this context, US President Donald Trump made a significant statement regarding his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the Oval Office, Trump stated that the relationship between India and the United States is very special, and despite the current tensions, Modi and I will remain friends. He is an excellent Prime Minister. He's great. Although I don't like what he is doing right now, the relationship between India and America is very special. There’s no need to worry about this because such moments occasionally occur between two nations.

In fact, the President was responding to a question about whether he is prepared to mend ties with India again. Due to tariffs, relations between the two countries are at their worst in the past two decades.

Trump also expressed his disappointment that India buys a lot of oil from Russia. We've imposed a significant tariff on India, fifty percent. I have a good relationship with PM Modi. He’s great. He was here a few months ago. When asked about trade negotiations with India and other countries, Trump said that things are going well. We are very disappointed with the European Union.

Trump previously mentioned that we feel that India and Russia have slipped into China’s hands. Additionally, Trump posted a picture of Modi, Putin, and Xi Jinping.

Before this statement, Trump’s senior advisor Peter Navarro also criticized India, saying that by purchasing oil from Russia, India is making significant profits. India cannot digest the truth. I believe the trade team and the President are disappointed that India is continually funding Russia in its war against Ukraine.
