As the Maharashtra assembly elections approach, the MVA alliance is ramping up its campaign with transformative promises. On Wednesday, MVA unveiled five major guarantees, aiming to uplift the common people. These include monthly financial support for women, loan waivers for farmers, aid for the unemployed, and comprehensive health insurance for families.
The prominent Maharashtra Swabhimaan Sabha, organized by alliance parties Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), saw the participation of key leaders. Rahul Gandhi took a sharp aim at the BJP and Shinde government from the stage, while MVA leaders released their ambitious election manifesto.
Here Are MVA's Five Key Guarantees:
1. Mahalaxmi Scheme:
Women across Maharashtra will receive financial assistance of 3,000 INR per month along with free travel on state-run buses.
2. Agrarian Prosperity:
All farmers in Maharashtra will have agricultural loans up to 3 lakh INR waived. Additionally, farmers who consistently repay their loans will receive an incentive of 50,000 INR.
3. Yuvakanna Promise:
Every unemployed youth in Maharashtra will be granted a monthly assistance of 4,000 INR.
4. Family Protection:
All families in Maharashtra will be provided with affordable health insurance worth 25 lakh INR, along with essential medications in government hospitals at no cost.
5. Equality Assurance:
A socio-economic caste census will be conducted to safeguard the rights of marginalized communities in Maharashtra. Post-census, the cap on reservation will be lifted beyond 50%.
The Battle of Two Alliances
Post the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, and Sharad Pawar's NCP formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi. In the upcoming elections, the battle intensifies between two major alliances rather than individual parties. The ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi are poised head-to-head. Mahayuti consists of BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar. This time, the opposition (MVA) aims to replicate its previous Lok Sabha success over Mahayuti.
Elections Set for November 20
Voting for the 288 Maharashtra assembly seats is scheduled for November 20, with results on November 23. In the previous election, BJP secured 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54, and Congress 44. However, post-election, Shiv Sena parted ways with NDA and formed the government with NCP and Congress, with Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister. In June 2022, internal discord in Shiv Sena led Eknath Shinde to separate with 40 MLAs, ultimately becoming CM with BJP's support. Now, Shiv Sena is split into two factions. Similarly, Sharad Pawar's NCP is divided into the groups of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar.
