The intense tension remains in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, after the recent violent clashes that shook the district. Hundreds have taken to the streets with the body of Ram Gopal Mishra, who fell victim to gunfire. Chanting against the police and administration, they demand immediate arrest and stringent action against the perpetrators. Amid this turmoil, an enraged crowd on the Bahraich-Sitapur Highway set two vehicles ablaze. Several shops have also been vandalized and set on fire.
Family members and villagers have placed the body in front of the main office of Mahsi Tehsil. A significant police presence is on-site, with the DM, SP, and numerous officials engaged in calming the incensed crowd. However, the bereaved family persists in their refusal to proceed with the last rites. Meanwhile, regarding the Bahraich violence,
has convened a high-level meeting in Lucknow.
On the evening of October 13, a communal procession for immersing a Durga statue was underway in the Maharajganj area of Hardi, Mahsi Tehsil, when a dispute regarding DJ music escalated into a violent confrontation between communities. During this tumult, some individuals initiated stone-pelting from rooftops, leading to retaliatory shooting, which tragically claimed the life of a young man, Ram Gopal Mishra.

Approximately 15 others were also injured in the violence. They were transported to the hospital, where doctors declared Ram Gopal Mishra deceased, causing an uproar throughout the district. People flocked the streets, leading to significant vandalism and arson. To control the mob, the police resorted to using force. Late at night, after completing the post-mortem, preparations for the funeral were made this morning.
Currently, the unrest persists post stone-pelting and shooting during the Durga idol immersion journey at Maharajganj in the Hardi police station area. A substantial police force remains on standby to ensure peace and order. Meanwhile, as Ram Gopal's body arrived in the village early Monday, chaos ensued.
Accompanied by scores of people armed with sticks, the family and community members moved with Ram Gopal's body towards the tehsil premises. Amidst this, Bahraich's female DM, Monika Rani, was seen counseling women. SP Vrinda Shukla was also present. Yet, despite these efforts, vandalism and arson erupted anew. Some assailants set shops on fire, prompting the deployment of PAC in the affected area.
