The CBI investigating the doctor rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata made a major revelation in court. The investigative agency has alleged that several fake records related to the case were created and altered in the police station. This disclosure came during questioning of Tala Police Station In-Charge Abhijit Mandal and former Principal Sandeep Ghosh. Based on this, the CBI stated that further questioning of both is required. Subsequently, the court sent the accused to judicial custody until September 30.
The CBI informed the court that the DVR and hard disk containing CCTV footage from Tala Police Station were sent to Kolkata CFSL for data extraction. Based on this data and report, further interrogation of the accused in custody is essential, which is expected within a day or two. The mobile phones of both accused were also sent to CFSL for data extraction. Vital evidence is likely to be found from these data.
The investigative agency has stated that the probe is progressing. Under the order dated September 20, the director of CFSL Kolkata was instructed to send an expert on September 23 to provide information on polygraph and narco tests. However, due to their absence, the hearing has been scheduled for September 25 in Sealdah court. This case is being investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the CBI had made a significant revelation regarding Kolkata Police's negligence. The investigative agency stated that the primary accused Sanjay Roy's clothes and belongings were recovered two days after his arrest. Despite knowing that these items linked to the accused could prove crucial in determining his role in the crime, there was an unnecessary delay. Sanjay Roy was arrested on August 10 based on CCTV footage.
He was seen entering the seminar hall of the hospital at 4:03 a.m. on the day of the incident. A CBI officer had said, "The accused's role in the crime had already emerged, but the police unnecessarily delayed seizing his clothes and belongings by two days." Following the Calcutta High Court's order, the CBI took over the case investigation on August 14. Previously, Kolkata Police was handling the investigation.
In this case, former Principal Sandeep Ghosh and Tala Police Station In-Charge Abhijit Mandal are accused of destroying evidence related to the incident and derailing the investigation. Both are not cooperating with the CBI inquiries. An officer mentioned the possibility of a criminal conspiracy between the main accused and co-accused. They were interrogated face-to-face with CCTV footage from Tala Police Station, the crime scene, and the medical college.
On September 2, the central investigative agency arrested Sandeep Ghosh in a case involving financial irregularities at the hospital. A CBI lawyer stated that there appears to be a larger conspiracy behind this incident. The information about the incident reached Tala Police Station at 10 a.m., but officers arrived at the scene at 11 a.m. The FIR was registered post 11:30 p.m. On the day of the incident, the station in-charge had several conversations with Sandeep Ghosh.
