Victim's Mother Questions the Rarity of the Case
The victim's mother stated, "We are stunned. How is this not one of the rarest cases? A doctor on duty was raped and murdered. We are disappointed. There was a grand conspiracy behind this crime." While announcing the sentence for Sanjay Roy, Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das stated that the case does not fall under the 'rarest of rare' category, thus sentencing the perpetrator to life imprisonment.
Victim’s Parents Refuse 17 Lakh Compensation
The victim’s father declared that their fight would continue until all culprits are punished. Meanwhile, the victim's parents refused compensation. The court had directed the state government to pay 17 lakh rupees. The judge remarked, "The victim died while on duty at the hospital, her workplace, thus her family deserves compensation as a state responsibility."

Sanjay Roy Found Guilty Under Sections of the Indian Penal Code
Previously, on Saturday, Sanjay Roy was found guilty under Sections 64, 66, and 103 (1) of the Indian Penal Code. The victim’s mother had expressed her continued wait for the arrest and punishment of other criminals involved. She stated, "Sanjay Roy is guilty; it is proven by biological evidence. His silence during court hearings also implicated his hand in torturing and murdering my daughter."
'I Will Fight for Justice with My Husband Until My Last Breath'
She had commented, "Sanjay Roy was not alone; others were involved who are not yet arrested. Full justice has not been served. My fight for justice will continue with my husband until my last breath. This case will only be complete when all involved in our daughter’s murder are punished. We will wait for that day and until then, we won't be at peace."

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Also Expressed Dissatisfaction with the Verdict
Even the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed dissatisfaction over the life sentence given to Sanjay Roy. On Monday, she alleged that the investigation was forcibly taken away from Kolkata police. She remarked that had the police been in charge, the convict would surely have received the death penalty. She questioned the CBI inquiry and stated, "We demanded the death penalty, but the court sentenced him to life imprisonment."
