Following the chaos in Muzaffarnagar, now Roorkee in Uttarakhand has witnessed disturbances caused by Kanwariyas. The unruly crowd first assaulted an e-rickshaw driver and then vandalized his vehicle with sticks and rods. Despite the presence of police officers attempting to de-escalate the situation, the Kanwariyas continued their destruction unabated. The injured e-rickshaw driver has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred near the Libberhedi Canal track in the Manglaur police station area. The e-rickshaw driver was accused of hitting a Kanwariya and damaging their religious offering. Following this, Kanwariyas brutally assaulted the driver and then vandalized his e-rickshaw with sticks and rods, all the while chanting slogans in praise of Lord Shiva. A large crowd gathered at the scene, and the police have registered a case against unknown Kanwariyas.

What did Haridwar SSP have to say?

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parmendra Singh Dobal stated that the incident was reported by Sanjay Kumar in the Libberhedi area of Manglaur. He mentioned that his e-rickshaw had accidentally collided with a Kanwariya, causing no injuries or damage to the religious offering. Nonetheless, the Kanwariya, along with a few companions, assaulted the e-rickshaw driver and vandalized the vehicle. An investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators. Moreover, the SSP appealed to all Kanwariyas to remain calm and report any such incidents to the police without resorting to violence.

It is to be noted that previously, Muzaffarnagar witnessed similar chaos by Kanwariyas. They beat a car driver severely and smashed the car right in front of the police. The vehicle's windows were shattered, and the roof was dented. Despite police attempts to intervene, the commotion did not cease. They alleged that the car had collided with a Kanwariya during the pilgrimage, causing damage to their religious offerings.
