Five years ago, the small village of Bikaru in Kanpur was shaken by the brutal killing of eight police officers. The gruesome act orchestrated by the infamous criminal Vikas Dubey and his associates shocked the entire nation. Several police officers were also wounded in the event and were admitted to private nursing homes with gunshot injuries. The Chief Minister personally visited the injured officers back then, yet today, those very officers are left wandering with pleas as the police department demands reimbursement for their medical expenses, threatening to deduct it from their monthly salaries if not repaid.
A notice has been issued for the officers injured in the line of duty, seeking the return of the 650,000 rupees paid for their treatment. Additionally, if they fail to repay, warnings have been issued stating that 20% of their salaries will be withheld monthly until the debt is settled.

Additionally, these distressed officers are seeking support from Kanpur police officials. Despite having been transferred to different districts, the shadow of the Vikas Dubey incident lingers over them.
The Bikaru incident resulted in severe injuries to officers like Station House Officer Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Inspector Sudhakar Pandey, Inspector Ajay Kashyap, Constable Ajay Singh Sengar, and Constable Shiv Murat, who still bear the scars from the bullets fired by Dubey's gang.
During that dire time, a life-saving fund was initiated, providing each injured officer with 650,000 rupees for treatment in facilities such as Kanpur's expensive Regency Hospital. The officers believed it to be non-refundable governmental aid; however, after five years, recovery demands are being levied against them.
Just last Wednesday, the affected officers approached Joint Police Commissioner Vinod Kumar Singh in Kanpur to voice their grievances. The commissioner has assured them of potential assistance.
The distressed officers expressed that had they known this would happen, they would have managed their treatments independently. Currently, the Joint Police Commissioner has promised to discuss their predicament with higher authorities.
