The India Today-Business Today AI Conference 2024 was graced by many industry leaders, including Sandeep Patel, the head of IBM India and South Asia, who shed light on the transformative power of AI. He remarked that technology acts as a bridge, weaving stories and shaping the future.
Patel underlined the transformative capabilities of artificial intelligence, heralding a new era of technological innovation and pointing out how technology acts as a storyteller.
Discussing the impact of digital services in reaching everyone in India, he stated, 'AI is bringing people closer to technology in many aspects.' Patel acknowledged the significant impact AI has in rural areas, enabling access to essential services.
He provided an example of how IBM, through its CSR initiative, has developed AI-powered irrigation tools for farmers, guiding them on the efficient use of water. These are the ways AI can assist the common man, he highlighted.
Patel expressed his belief in India's potential to become the AI capital of the world, citing the IBM AI Adoption Survey, which indicates that 59% of companies in India utilize AI, the highest globally, with 27% considering its use.
Furthermore, Patel proposed a shift in AI development workforce beyond traditional engineers, suggesting, 'Being an engineer is not necessary to develop AI.' He emphasized India's focus should be on developing small language modules catering to local needs, providing more cost-effective and practical solutions.
