With several state elections scheduled this year, Aaj Tak, in collaboration with C-Voter, conducted the 'Mood of the Nation' survey to gauge the public mood. One of the key questions was about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's performance. According to the survey, 34% of people believe Modi's performance has been good, 15% consider it average, 10% think it is poor, and 13% believe it is very poor.

The survey was conducted between July 15th and August 10th, 2024, involving 136,463 people from 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country. The aim was to determine which party would form the government if elections were held today. Additionally, key issues and the performance of the current governments in election-bound states like Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand were explored.

The survey asked which alliance would win how many seats if the Lok Sabha elections were held today. The consensus was that the NDA would secure 299 seats, the INDIA Bloc would win 233 seats, and other parties would garner 11 seats.

Comparatively, in the last Lok Sabha elections held on June 4th, the NDA had won 293 seats, while the INDIA Bloc had achieved 234 seats. The MOTN survey indicates an increase of 6 seats for the NDA and a decrease of 1 seat for the INDIA Bloc.

If general elections were held today, the BJP is projected to win 244 seats, the Congress 106 seats, and other parties 193 seats. In the last Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had secured 240 seats and the Congress 99 seats. Notably, Rahul Gandhi had won two seats but later resigned from the Wayanad seat.

According to Aaj Tak's 'Mood of the Nation' survey, the biggest issue facing the country is unemployment, cited by 28% of respondents. Following this, 19% consider inflation to be the biggest problem, 6% see poverty, 6% identify the agriculture crisis, and 5% point to issues related to electricity, water, and roads as significant problems.

In Haryana, elections are set for October 1st. When asked about the Chief Minister’s performance, only 22% of respondents expressed satisfaction with CM Saini's work, while 40% were dissatisfied, and 19% were somewhat satisfied.

In terms of overall satisfaction with Haryana's government, 27% of the populace is satisfied, 44% are dissatisfied, and 25% are somewhat satisfied.

On the major issues in Haryana, 45% of respondents identified unemployment as the biggest concern. Only 3% cited corruption, 14% highlighted inflation, 13% focused on development, 3% mentioned law and order, and 2% pointed to agricultural issues.

Jharkhand will see elections for its 81 assembly seats at the end of this year, although dates have not yet been announced. In the 'Mood of the Nation' survey, 25% of the state's residents were satisfied with CM Hemant Soren's performance, 35% were dissatisfied, and 30% were somewhat satisfied.

Overall, 27% of Jharkhand's population is satisfied with the Soren government's work, 37% are dissatisfied, and 34% are somewhat satisfied.

Unemployment is the top issue for Jharkhand's residents, with 44% listing it as the primary concern. Additionally, 15% cited inflation, 14% pointed to development, while 3% saw corruption as significant. Law and order, as well as farmers' issues, were identified by 2% of the respondents each.

In Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's performance received mixed reviews: 35% were satisfied, 31% somewhat satisfied, and 28% were dissatisfied. This indicates that while the Chief Minister meets expectations to an extent, there is room for improvement.

The 'Mood of the Nation' survey shows that in Maharashtra, 25% of residents are fully satisfied with the state government's performance, 34% are somewhat satisfied, and another 34% are dissatisfied. This data reveals a mixed reaction to the government's performance.

In terms of priorities, 32% of Maharashtra's residents identified unemployment as the biggest issue, followed by both development and inflation at 15% each. Agricultural issues were prioritized by 13%, while law and order and corruption were flagged by 2% and 4%, respectively. This highlights that job scarcity remains the foremost concern for the people of Maharashtra.

Jammu & Kashmir is set for elections after 10 years, with voting scheduled to take place in three phases on September 18th, 25th, and October 1st. Results will be declared on October 4th. To understand the public sentiment before the polls, Aaj Tak conducted the 'Mood of the Nation' survey, which revealed that 47% of J&K residents consider unemployment as the most pressing issue.
