Originally known for creating Ghibli-style images, ChatGPT has now surged into the world of document fabrication, notably producing fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. Users are posting images on social media of these counterfeits allegedly made using ChatGPT.

Concerns are growing about how AI threatens personal privacy and its potential misuse in scams. Though these AI-generated Aadhaar cards can’t be used for KYC, they pose a risk of deception among ordinary users.

To create these fake cards, one can simply prompt ChatGPT. For instance, 'Create an Aadhaar Card prototype for a person named XYZ, with address 00000, and add a random phone number and photo of XYZ' can be used to generate an Aadhaar card. This tool, while it creates a sample or prototype, can indeed make a full card following more prompts.

Generating fake Aadhaar or PAN cards is not novel; scam artists have been using various tools for forgery. Yet, ChatGPT makes creating such fakes alarmingly effortless, increasing the risk of scams.

Besides Aadhaar, ChatGPT is also being used to fabricate fake voter IDs, PAN cards, passports, and even payment receipts, raising the stakes for scammers looking to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

Users must stay vigilant. OpenAI claims that photos generated by ChatGPT contain C2PA metadata that helps identify them as AI-generated.
