Every day, millions of people choose Indian Railways for their journeys. For long-distance travel, trains are often seen as the best option, especially during festive seasons, when trains are packed with passengers. To manage the rush, the railways introduce special trains for different zones. Yet, many passengers find their waiting tickets unconfirmed, unable to reunite with their families on time.
Ticket Turns Waiting After RAC
While unconfirmed waiting tickets are common, have you heard of a ticket turning waiting after being RAC? A passenger named Kamlesh Shukla shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he booked a ticket from Ghaziabad to Deoria Sadar for November 20th, which was initially RAC 42. To his surprise, it later appeared as waiting list GNWL 63. He posted the details on his account.
Railways Respond to Passenger's Post
In response to Kamlesh's post, the official Indian Railways account, Railway Seva, suggested he share his contact via indianrailways.gov.in or by dialing 139. Kamlesh shared his mobile number, expressing gratitude for the response. Later, Railways informed him that his complaint was registered on the Rail Madad app and he could track it.
Technical Issues Cause Inconvenience
Traveling with Indian Railways is usually convenient but not without challenges, especially in ticket booking. Passengers often complain that their RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets unexpectedly shift to waiting. This problem occurs due to technical glitches. The railway has acknowledged its mistake.
Understanding RAC
RAC stands for Reservation Against Cancellation. In Indian Railways, it means a passenger is allowed to travel but without a full berth. They share a seat with another passenger. If someone cancels during the journey, the RAC passenger gets the full berth.

Reasons RAC Status Can Turn Waiting
Sometimes, due to technical errors, the status changes from RAC to waiting. This mainly arises from software updates, server problems, or data synchronization issues. Recently, the railway posted on their X account, stating, "Due to certain technical reasons, RAC/confirmation status was mistakenly sent. It has been resolved by the technical team. Apologies for the inconvenience." Railway has acknowledged this mistake, working to prevent unnecessary trouble for passengers in the future.
