In Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren returns for a second term. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led coalition is leading in 57 out of 81 assembly seats. Speaking to a newspaper in the afternoon when victory was certain, Hemant Soren credited his wife, Kalpana Soren, and his team for this triumph.
Hemant Soren commented, 'We completed our homework and established our targets. We were aware that this competition was going to be extremely tough. So, we set out to work on the ground with our team. It was brilliant teamwork, and we conveyed the message we wanted to.'
Kalpana Praised as 'One-Man Army'
He said, 'You observed our performance in the Lok Sabha elections (the JMM-Congress alliance won five out of 14 seats). If I was out of jail, we might have performed even better. At that time, my wife Kalpana Soren operated like a 'One-Man Army', and this time, we were two.'
'The Voter-Leader Relationship Like Teacher-Student'
The BJP had aggressively highlighted the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators in their election campaign. Speaking on this, Hemant Soren stated, 'The key aspect is who the listeners are and what they interpret from it. The relationship between the voter and the leader should mimic that of a teacher and a student. The teacher should understand the student's needs.'
'Never Seen Such an Election Before'
Hemant said, 'People witnessed how we stood with them over the past five years, and they observed us closely. We ensured every issue that was in voters' minds was addressed. We concentrated on the missteps of the BJP and emphasized what we were doing right.'
When asked if he felt immense pressure to win this election, he replied, 'Indeed, the pressure was enormous... it was very tough. I don't think I've witnessed an election like this before, and I doubt I ever will.'
