It's been four years since the alleged gang rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Hathras. A lot has changed since then, both for the accused and the victim's family. In previous segments, we spoke with both sides. This part tells the story of the sole eyewitness, 'Chhotu.'

On the morning of September 14th, the field where the girl's injured body was found belonged to Chhotu, an important figure in the case. The case revolved around him for a long time.

We met him halfway. He had 'Thakur Saheb' written on his bike. At first, he denied remembering anything, saying, “I’ve forgotten everything. What’s there to ask now? The court is acquitting everyone.” After some persuasion, he agreed to take us to his home.

What happened that day?

I ran because I have a weak heart and get scared at the sight of blood. I called everyone I could. Her mother was asking me to call her brother. I went to him, and he said to gather some people first, then he would come. He came after half an hour or longer.

Do you remember everything clearly?

Yes, that's exactly what happened.

Why did you disappear after the incident?

I was scared. The CBI took Lovkush for questioning and jailed him. I thought they would trap me too if I stayed outside, so I disappeared but came out after a few days.
