What Did Maxi Say About His ODI Retirement?

The 36-year-old Glenn Maxwell discussed his decision on the Final Word Podcast, stating, 'I discussed the 2027 ODI World Cup with the selectors. I mentioned that I didn't see myself being part of it. I didn't want to limit myself to just a few series and play for personal gain.'

Maxwell reflects, 'Initially, it was quite unexpected to be chosen in the team. At that time, I was just thrilled to play a few matches. My career has seen highs and lows—being dropped, making comebacks, playing in World Cups, and being part of some incredible teams. I started feeling that my physical response was not in the best interest of the team anymore. I spoke with George Bailey (Chief Selector) about what he envisioned going forward. The team is progressing in a clear direction, and this decision will help form the right combination ahead of the next World Cup.'
