Former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi Clinches Gaya Constituency, Defeating Kumar Sarvjeet by More Than 100,000 Votes

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, former Chief Minister of Bihar and leader of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, Jitan Ram Manjhi, has emerged victorious from the Gaya Lok Sabha seat. Manjhi outplayed opposition leader Kumar Sarvjeet of the RJD, claiming triumph with an impressive 494,960 votes in his favor. In contrast, the RJD candidate garnered 393,148 votes.

As the NDA candidate and patron of the Hindustani Awam Morcha, Manjhi's win with a margin of 101,812 votes has been celebrated with fireworks by his party colleagues, while they enthusiastically shared sweets among themselves. It’s worth noting that this is actually Manjhi’s first victory in Gaya, following three previous attempts that ended in defeat.

This marked Manjhi's maiden electoral battle from Gaya as an NDA alliance member. His main competitor was local boy Kumar Sarvjeet, a previous minister in the Mahagathbandhan government and the MLA from Bodhgaya. However, Sarvjeet was vanquished by a margin of 101,812 votes, leading to Manjhi's celebratory victory.

Though the primary contest in Gaya was between Jitan Ram Manjhi and Kumar Sarvjeet, a total of 15 candidates had thrown their hats in the ring, including several independents. Gaya district, well-known for its tourism, has a total of 10 assembly seats, including critical constituencies like Sherghati, Barachatti, Bodhgaya, Gaya Town, Belaganj, and Wazirganj.
