The Election Commission has extended the deadline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process by 7 days in 12 states and union territories. The Commission has issued a new schedule, superseding previous orders, to accommodate the revised dates for voter list updates, enumeration, and booth restructuring.
This extension pertains to states and union territories where the SIR process was already underway, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The Commission deemed this extension necessary for creating a more accurate, updated, and organized voter list.
Previously, the SIR process was due by December 4, with only 4 days remaining. With the 7-day extension, the final deadline is now December 11.
Claims and objections to register eligible voters or remove ineligible ones from the voter list can be made from December 16 to January 15. From December 16 to February 7, any appeals against district voter registration officers (ERO) are to be addressed, with final publication of the voter list set for February 14, 2026.
The New SIR Schedule...
1. Enumeration Period (Door-to-Door Verification)
Until December 11, 2025 (Thursday)
2. Polling Stations Reorganization
Until December 11, 2025 (Thursday)
3. Update Control Table and Prepare Draft Roll
