Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh finds himself in the spotlight. Following his 'Dil-Luminati' India tour, he has redirected his focus towards films. However, challenges have also come his way. His latest film, 'Panjab 95,' originally scheduled for release on February 7, is postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Diljit's 'Panjab 95' Faces Postponement
The movie 'Panjab 95' is a biographical account of the life of Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Diljit put in considerable effort into this role, sharing glimpses of his dedication on social media. Unfortunately, this hard work won't be seen by fans on the big screen just yet. On Instagram, Diljit shared a major update about the film, writing: We apologize deeply and must inform you that 'Panjab 95' won't release on February 7 due to circumstances beyond our control.

A teaser had been released earlier confirming the release date. The teaser highlighted disputes and violence in Punjab, allegedly involving the police, exposed by Jaswant Singh Khalra (played by Diljit). However, the film's controversies have delayed the release. Arjun Rampal stars alongside Diljit, with Ronnie Screwvala producing the film.
What’s the Controversy Surrounding Diljit's 'Panjab 95'?
The film has been mired in controversy for the past three years. In 2022, when 'Panjab 95' was submitted to the Film Certification Board, it was titled based on the Ghallughara massacre. The board objected to the title and demanded 120 cuts. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee intervened, leading to reduced cuts, though the title change remained firm, resulting in the title 'Panjab 95'.
The film's trailer released on YouTube India was met with positive responses but was taken down within hours, escalating the controversy. Jaswant Singh Khalra's wife, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, questioned the board's decision, advocating for release without cuts. The wait continues to see when the film will finally hit Indian theaters.
