The government of Bangladesh on Monday registered a protest against recent comments by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Bangladeshi citizens in Jharkhand, calling the remarks 'highly condemnable.' Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a note of protest to India's Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka, expressing 'grave objection and profound dissatisfaction.'
During his visit to Jharkhand last week, Amit Shah stated that if the BJP comes to power, the party would 'teach a lesson to every Bangladeshi intruder.'
According to the Dhaka Tribune, the government of Bangladesh requested New Delhi to caution their political leaders against making such 'objectionable and unacceptable' statements.
'Bangladesh's Request to the Indian Government'
The protest note mentioned, 'The ministry expressed grave objection, deep distress, and profound dissatisfaction. Additionally, it urged the Indian government to advise political leaders against making such objectionable and unacceptable comments.'
The ministry also emphasized that statements against citizens of the neighboring country from responsible positions weaken the spirit of mutual respect and understanding between two friendly nations.
