In the wake of the severe flooding following the torrential rains, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena personally surveyed the affected areas. Places like Taimur Nagar, Barapullah drain, ITO, Tilak Bridge, Kushak drain, Golf Links, and Bharti Nagar, which were severely impacted, were part of his inspection tour. A substantial amount of silt and debris blocked the drainage system, leading to floods in regions such as Okhla, Taimur Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, New Friends Colony, and Maharani Bagh.

The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by the Chief Secretary-cum-Chairman of the NDMC, the MCD Commissioner, and the Chief Secretary of PWD among other senior officials. He directed all concerned agencies to expedite the cleaning of drains to prevent potential future flooding. Emphasis was also placed on swiftly removing encroachments along the drains.

Immediate Orders for Cleaning of Drains

During his inspection, VK Saxena identified similar issues with blocked drains due to debris and waste at ITO, Tilak Bridge, Kushak drain, Golf Links, and Bharti Nagar. He gave instructions for immediate cleaning of the drains, removal of silt, and utilization of pumps if necessary.

In the Capital city of Delhi, the ordeal of waterlogging is a frequent problem post-rainfall. The recent deluge in areas such as Okhla prompted urgent ground inspections by LG VK Saxena alongside BJP MPs.

Warning Issued to Officials Over Negligence

VK Saxena expressed his disappointment over the inadequacies in pre-monsoon drain desilting and issued stern warnings to officials for negligence. He ordered the removal of all rubbish, debris, and mud and demanded photo and video evidence of the cleaned areas. Accompanying the LG on the inspection were Central Minister and MP for East Delhi, Harsh Malhotra, and MP for New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj.
