Finance Minister Atishi, in an exclusive conversation with Aaj Tak, announced that all women over the age of 18 in Delhi will start benefiting from the Chief Minister's Women Respect Scheme around September or October this year. She claimed that Arvind Kejriwal's government is fully funded for the popular scheme. Atishi remarked that, over the past 9 years, Kejriwal's government has taken numerous strides to empower women. She highlighted that the government's exemplary work in state schools has significantly influenced the girls attending them.
Atishi pointed out that women comprise 80 percent of the beneficiaries of the Mohalla Clinic. Regarding the free bus travel scheme for women, she said that it's not the first of its kind in Delhi but the culmination of various initiatives taken by the government over the years. Atishi emphasized that AAP-led Delhi is renowned for effectively managing its finances without a fiscal deficit, a claim none other state governments can make, as they're all running a deficit, unlike Delhi's surplus budget.
Atishi responds to Aaj Tak's questions...
When will Delhi women start receiving ₹1000?
Atishi noted that the model code of conduct could be imposed any day now. The notification for the scheme is expected post the national elections. Once all processes are completed, women will likely see the ₹1000 in their bank accounts by September or October.
Is this scheme a political move by the AAP government?
The Finance Minister answered critics by challenging BJP's accusations of 'freebie culture', questioning why they don't implement better schemes in states under their governance, such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and UP. She asserts that BJP knows nothing else but to incessantly criticize Arvind Kejriwal.
What's the scope of the Chief Minister's Women Respect Scheme?
Atishi estimates that about 80% of female voters in Delhi will be eligible, potentially benefiting 45-50 lakh women. It remains to be seen how many will apply for the scheme.
Why are tax-paying women excluded from the scheme?
Atishi explained that tax-paying women, including government employees, already have a source of income and hence do not need the benefits of this scheme.
Is focusing on women voters a strategy for the parliamentary elections?
Atishi highlighted that women have inclined towards AAP since 2013, often voting for Kejriwal against their families' wishes. Women recognize the challenges Kejriwal faces and want to strengthen his ability to enact pro-people policies.
Is AAP adopting BJP's strategy of invoking Lord Ram in politics?
Dispelling the misconception, Atishi criticizes BJP's seasonal remembrance of Lord Ram during elections and alleges their conduct parallels Ravana more than Ram. She underlines AAP's commitment to enhancing every Delhi resident's life, mirroring the ideals of Ram Rajya.
