The countdown to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has begun, and political parties are ramping up preparations. It has now been confirmed that a seat-sharing agreement has been sealed between Congress and DMK in Tamil Nadu. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal disclosed the details during a joint press conference with DMK leaders.
Congress to Contest on Nine Seats in Tamil Nadu
Congress leader KC Venugopal, while criticizing the central BJP government, stated that following discussions between Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin and the party high command, a deal on the alliance has been reached in the state. The Congress-DMK coalition is set to fight on ten seats, with nine in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry.
'We Will Win on All Seats'
KC Venugopal expressed joy in announcing the alliance with the DMK, fighting against the divisive forces and the federal-opposing stance of the central government. Emphasizing the importance of uniting against the BJP's divisive, people-opposing politics, he confidently stated that they will clinch victory on all 40 seats in the state.
DMK to Stand Candidates on Twenty-One Seats
In Tamil Nadu, out of the 40 Lok Sabha seats, DMK candidates will contest on 21 seats, with Congress fielding candidates on nine plus one seat in Puducherry. Other alliance parties such as VCK, CPI, the Muslim League, and SDMK will run for one seat each. The KMDK candidate will also join the fray, contesting under the DMK's election symbol.
Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan's party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, has opted not to contest in the Lok Sabha election and has instead chosen to support the Congress-DMK alliance, securing a Rajya Sabha seat for 2025.
